Sacred texts were mostly composed to be recited, memorized, sung, and explained by teachers, not read silently cover to cover. That is why each guide here begins with context: who composed the text, how it is organized, how communities use it, and which translation is a good first choice.
Every translation is an interpretation. Where we can, we point to public-domain editions you can read free online (for example the Sacred Books of the East series) and to widely used modern translations. Each article lists these under "Sources & further reading". When a word has no good English equivalent, we keep the original term and explain it; the Dharma glossary collects them in one place.
